Anita Ammersfeld will be pleased to be honored with the "Order of merit for services rendered to Vienna" presented by Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny, City Councillor for Culture and Science on 3 December 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Vienna City Hall.
In John Patrick Shanleys „Doubt“, a play about the ethical integrity of a cleric, directed by Christine Wipplinger, Anita Ammersfeld performed for the last time on her own stage - after she had made the decision to close her stadtTheater walfischgasse which she - after an extensive renovation and reopening - directed for 10 years (2005 - 2015).
The stadtTheater’s final was also the first production: „Freunde, das Leben ist lebenswert“ (literally: friends, life is worth living”, an ironic allusion to the play’s story about three Jewish artists during the Nazi regime), written and again directed by Charles Lewinsky. The performance of this production on May 8th 2015 set the self-chosen line under the era Anita Ammersfeld and her stadtTheater walfischgasse.
The premises are rented since September 2015 to the Wiener Staatsoper. Instead of stadtTheater walfischgasse is there now the Studio Walfischgasse, the new venue of the Wiener Staatsoper which will be used for children's operas, lectures and artist talks.
